Jenine & Josie {a mommy/daughter session} | Portraits

June 1, 2014

It wasn’t until I sat down to edit the photos from Jenine & Josie’s session that I took pause to think about the importance of capturing moments like these. Moments that are so special that you will want to look back at them and remember for a lifetime. I cannot tell you how I wish that I had more photos with my boys as they were and are growing up. I took thousands and still do…but I cannot tell you how important it is to insert yourself into the photos. While I really like to take a beautifully posed, more traditional image, I LOVE to set the stage to capture moments and emotions. It still is a form of directing, but it is not a “look this way and smile” photograph. Sometimes breaking the rules of lighting and composition make for some of the most amazing captures. I don’t mean something that is out of focus or taken in bad lighting…but something that simply breaks the exact rules of what is taught. The light shining through Jenine’s hair while she kisses Josie speaks to me. It shows that intense love of a mother. Here is a handful of what we took on the day of their most recent session.
