It is not very often that I am at a loss for words and for those of you that know me would agree…I am not quiet all that much. haha. But as I started to write this blog post, I found myself sitting here and wondering if I had all the right words that would convey to my readers just how important this ride to Austin, TX is to so many people. There have been several fundraising events lately to help each rider & support person reach their goals in order to participate in the ride which leaves Greenville, SC on October 9th. The sole purpose of the Challenge to Conquer Cancer (C3) team is to raise awareness and money which goes toward cancer research. What I have found along the way is that there is so much more than just raising awareness & money. Deep friendships form along the way which will last hopefully forever. It’s inspiring because you see riders participating that are currently undergoing cancer treatments and may not always feel like going on a 75 mile ride. The support among the group is incredible. Stories are heard from others outside of the C3 group that want to share their own experiences or just ask you to ride in honor or in memory of a loved one. I personally have realized more than ever that the more I give the better I feel and I’d bet that everyone else feels the same. And while we have an awesome time on rides, get togethers and fundraisers, it isn’t always fun times & laughs. We have had riders give us a scare due to a crash, we’ve heard news of cancer returning or a new diagnosis. There have been moments of tears when a teammate or friend is struggling with treatment or is just not feeling it on a ride and wants to quit for the day. But the laughs, accomplishments, tears & fears have made for one seriously strong group of people that I feel so blessed to be around. The goal of C3 is to ride and raise money in hopes of a cure for cancer.
